Thirty pieces of silver

Ron, in Mat 26:14-15, Judas Iscariot sold Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. Do you know what thirty pieces of silver value nowadays (in US$)?

Mat 26:14-15
Quote:

{26:14} Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the leaders of the priests,
{26:15} and he said to them, “What are you willing to give me, if I hand him over to you?” So they appointed thirty pieces of silver for him.
(Mat 26:14-15)

Hello Ron, do you not get my mean in this thread? I mean, that thirty pieces of silver at Jesus time is the same with how much dollar in our time now? I wan't to compare it, how much money that given to Judas (that made him betray Jesus) if we want to value it with today currencies.

The type of coin is not stated in the text, but the most common silver coin was the silver denarius, which was worth about a day's pay.

So 30 silver denarius would be about a month's pay.

The weight of the silver was about 3.8 grams, according to this source:
http://www.imperialcoins.com/info.as...nDenominations

30 x 3.8 = 114 grams

price of pure silver coins today, is between $15 and $20 per ounce

114 grams is about 4 ounces

so the silver in the 30 denarii is worth $60 to $80 U.S. dollars, about a day's pay for a relatively low paying job.

Figures...

Selling Christ, The Savior of The World, for $ 80 fits about right with His Humble submission and Sacrifice..

$80

So it's only US$ 80?, US$ 80 that made Judas Iscariot's eyes turn green. Well..well.., OK, thank you for replies.

30 denarii was 30 days pay for that time period, so silver coins were worth much more then than they are now (though this will likely change as the terrible events of the tribulation unfold).

From the point of view of Judas, it was a month's pay for a laborer.
