Default Where did the Patriarchs of the OT go after their death?

Surely not Hell.

Ron,

I was reading a Catholic author who says that "Jesus went to Hell, He went to Hell to take Adam, Abraham, David and all the OT Patriarchs to take them to Heaven".

Now, the Church teaches that nobody can be taken out of Hell, but before judging this author, perhaps he could mean 'Hell' as the place known as "Sheol" ? - if so, is Sheol a place other than Hell?, then why he would use the term "Hell"? it can be confusing to the faithful.

Another question, does the Church teaches where did the good people of the OT went after their deaths before the resurrection of Christ? - (I think this question was answered long ago here, but I can't find the link).

Here is the Church document:
http://www.papalencyclicals.net/Ben12/B12bdeus.html
considered by some to be an exercise of Papal Infallibility.

According to the general disposition of God, the souls of all the saints who departed from this world before the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ.... after they have been purified after death.... are and will be with Christ in heaven, in the heavenly kingdom and paradise, joined to the company of the holy angels.

The souls who died in a state of grace prior to Christ, go to Purgatory and then to the upper level of Purgatory called the Limbo of the Fathers. Then, when Christ opened the gates of Heaven, these souls enter eternal bliss.
