Default The Church is Indefectible

The Church can never go astray from the true Faith. See my post:

https://ronconte.wordpress.com/2015/...-indefectible/

And the indefectibility of the Church implies the indefectibility of the Pope and of the body of Bishops. The Pope can never commit the sins of apostasy, heresy, or schism, nor can he ever teach material heresy (not even with a sincere but mistaken conscience). And the same is true of the body of Bishops, though only as a body, not as individuals.
