Default Popes and Indefectibility

The Church is indefectible (universal magisterium).
Each Pope has the gift of truth and a never-failing faith (Vatican I).

Popes cannot teach or propagate heresy, neither intentionally nor inadvertently, as this would be contrary to the gift of truth.

Popes cannot commit apostasy, heresy, or schism, as this would be contrary to a never-failing faith.

Each Catholic Christian is required to submit to the authority of each Pope over doctrine and discipline. Obstinate refusal to do so is the sin of schism.

I believe that each Pope is prevented by God from being or becoming evil or corrupt: in soul, in mind and/or heart, in purpose and/or deed.

The same applies to the body of Bishops, though only as a body, not individually.
