Default New Encyclica Letter

This is pope Benedict's new encyclical Letter "Spe Salvi" on Hope which was published just today:

I prefer encyclicals that teach or define new doctrines, such as the Pius Popes often wrote, or encyclicals that directly refute heresies and various erroneous ideas. This kind of pastoral encyclical is certainly useful to the Church, but it is not as interesting to me.

I know what you mean, these encyclicals are not very insightful thanks (or perhaps unfortunately) due to the influence of the world. Perhaps Pius XIII's encyclicals will have a different effect such as Pius XII's encyclicals or Leo XIII's.
