Default Will the Coronavirus cause economic slow down and famine?

Ron:

This guy seems to think things will get worse for the economy. Others are a bit more optimistic. What is your take on this? Is it possible that bad times are ahead? Is the tribulation slowly beginning? Or is this just coincidence?

Here in Italy things are getting worse. We have to stay home and can only go out for shopping or work. Masses in churches have been suspended, gatherings are forbidden. Very likely other european countries will follow in similar measures.

Default Glenn Beck on Italy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=330sJze0QzE

"COVID 19 may not have the death rate of the 1918 Spanish flu, and most people will probably recover with few complications. But there are enough severe cases of coronavirus that the medical systems in some countries are already overwhelmed...just look at Italy, which is now under a country-wide lockdown. Glenn reads a tweet thread from an intensive care nurse there who says hospitals are turning away stroke and heart attack victims, and some elderly coronavirus patients too. Could that happen in the U.S., too?"

I'm working on an article based on recent research, that will recommend certain foods and health supplements to inhibit the virus, perhaps reducing its severity.

To all..my sister is an infectious disease specialist ( MD)at Vanderbilt..early on she said this is generally similar to the flu..Last year the flu killed 16,000 people in the USA..in the 17/18 flu season it killed 60,000.. those numbers didnt make the headlines then, but the CV has killed 8 to date and the country is going crazy..I think everybody is going nuts..but this is an opportunity to learn ..do not trust the media , they are in it to sell news. When you couple that with management of many large companies playing it safe and playing it Politically Correct, you end up with the panic we have...

Thef uture lesson is for when the warning etc..occurs..are you going to believe what you hear on TV, or are you going to use your own logic and common sense

This virus has a low mortality rate, average 3% but the issue is different here. Around half of infected people get seriously ill and need artificial ventilation. The virus spreads quickly so you end up with a lot of people in a very short amount of time that require treatment and that is a burden on your health care system. If it cannot cope with it things will get worse. Trust me do not understimate this virus, in Italy everything is shut, we have to stay home unless it is for work, serious reasons or buying food in the store. We have been hit by the first wave, other europeans countries are following.

This is the main concern of many countries, doctors are working excessive shifts, the medical equipment ordered is barely sufficient and we require more. For the first time after the war my country is in serious economic and social distress.

It is a global pandemic, if harsh measures are not taken in each country it will affect you all in some way or another.

It's very much driven by perspective... 3% is a low fatality rate, but if you consider these numbers it paints a different story:

CDC estimates 60% of all people getting infected
Estimated fatality rate (3% is average right now)

World population: 7.7 Billion
60% infected would = 4.6 Billion
3% fatality rate = 138.6 Million deaths

Two weeks ago the fatality rate by age group breakdown was: (I can't find updated numbers)

80+ = 14.8% fatality rate
70-79 = 8.0%
60-69 = 3.6%
50-59 = 1.3%
40-49 = 0.4%
30-39 = 0.2%
20-29 = 0.2%
10-19 = 0.2%
0-9 = 0 fatalities

I agree with you Abba; this flu will end with warmer weather as it cannot tolerate heat; my surgeon told me that the liberal media is hyping this because its an election year. He thinks this flue season will be less fatal in the usa this year (2020) than what we had in 17/18 (60,000 deaths).

I don't know exactly what the media in the US are showing but your country don't seem to take seriously this pandemic as some other european countries are doing unfortunately. You must act quickly and individually, it has huge repercussions on the health care system, many people need artificial ventilation! The impact on the economy is huge! Those who minimize have no idea. I am telling you we are living very bad times now in Italy, you are fortunately few days behind the peak we are experiencing.

We can't go out from home only for work and basic necessities. Shops are closed, pupils follow lessons from home. The is no mass gathering in the churches, priests serve mass alone and we pray from distance. Have you ever heard of such harsh measures in a developed country?

Please pray for us, so far only China has helped us with doctors and equipment because their country has recovered from the pandemic peak already.

@Rob, @jeromeindesert, @Abba25

I agree that the liberal media shouldn't be trusted, really good point regarding what the Warning would look like, which will be so much worse.

The idea of the election year doesn't make sense to the worldwide buzz around this disease, as Rob pointed out. Italy has mandated every store shutdown (except supermarkets and pharmacies). Singapore is discussing martial law, Iran and Russia are claiming to have been targeted, etc.

I hope you are right, but it's too early to tell if the temps will kill it off like the flu. It takes higher than weather temps to kill it. Iran, Singapore, Argentina, Australia, etc... are either in Summer or have warmer seasons. The infections have occurred there too. (but to a lower infection rate)

Reminder: We don't even have good testing yet, and some nations have nothing available to at all to identify the infected.
