Default The conception of the Virgin Mary

Ron,

From your excerpt of your book on New Insights into the Deposit of Faith (not for the faint of heart as you say!) you bring forth the idea that the Virgin Mary's parents, Saint Joachim and Saint Ann, conceived her without sexual union and within their complete purity of body, heart, mind, and soul.

I always understood her Immaculate Conception did not implicate the active or generative conception by her parents ?

Blessed Anne Cathermine Emmerich describes the Immaculate Conception as occurring without marital relations, but rather miraculously and virginally. My speculative theology supports this conclusion with arguments from Tradition and Scripture.

However, the Magisterium has not decided the question; it is an open question. Most Catholics assume that Mary's parents conceived her by marital relations.
