![]() Embryonic Stem Cells are unethical because the human embryo is destroyed to harvest the cells, which is the sin of abortion (a type of murder).
But Adult Stem Cells are not necessarily ethical. In this case http://www.ncregister.com/daily-news...ested-for-spi/ a company takes its adult stem cells from fetal brain tissue, most likely from aborted fetuses. The sin of taking and using these cells is not abortion per se, but rather cooperation with abortion. The company almost certainly pays for the tissue, so this would constitute formal cooperation (always a sin), and the use of the cells would constitute material cooperation (sinful in this case). If the company approves of the abortions, even tacitly, this would be explicit cooperation. So it seems that this example has all three types of cooperation: explicit, formal, material.
