Default Tower of Babel represents Secular gods

From what I have read, the Tower of Babel symbolized man's ego and habit of sometimes thinking he can do as he pleases without God. As mankind "progresses" in some way, he tends to begin believing that this progress must always be good and is his handiwork. First of all, what is called "progress" need not be good if it is not used for moral purposes and secondly, when we begin thinking that we are soley responsible for our accomplishments and do not need God in any way, we are functioning on borrowed time morally, spiritually and perhaps even physically.
