Default The transfiguration

Ron,

Is this event in the bible there to further emphasize the humanity of Jesus Christ, in that he needed to be fortified spiritually by Moses and Elijah, or is the significance of the event the confirmation of the divinity of Jesus Christ by God the father Himself to Peter, James and John?

In my interpretation, neither. It is about the Church. The Church on earth will be transfigured, over time, to become very holy. Moses and Elijah represent Judaism and Islam. These three religions will eventually have a good relationship, but in the end, there will be only Christianity.

I can well appreciate the eschatological overtones tothat interpretation Ron, but I should think, such a glorious incident shouldserve much more significance to the Christians from the apostles to the presentday also!…..considering that the church has never been that holy till now withthe exception of some Popes like John Paul II!..... I am very intrigued abouthow you interpret Moses and Elijah as Judaism and Islam. Isn’t the conventionalinterpretation – Law and Prophets?

“Jesus’s face shines like the sun that itmight be clearly seen (phanerothe) that Christians are to be children of the light”(cf. Rom 13:12)….. Origen in Michael Figura’s …’according to Church Fathers”

Also, the contemplation of the concept of unio mystica provide very useful insight on the subject

There are other possible interpretations. I'm just describing my (eschatological) interpretation.
