![]() [Exodus 8]
{8:1} The Lord also said to Moses: “Enter to Pharaoh, and you will say to him: ‘Thus says the Lord: Release my people in order to sacrifice to me. The Israelite are the "firstborn" (4:22), a priestly nation (19:6) so they are called to offer sacrifice to God in a special way. The people of Israel have been living in this pagan land of Egypt for around 400 years so many of them might have become attached to pagan worship, so God instructs Moses to go out of this pagan place which worships many false gods so that the only true God can be worshiped alone at a separate place, without any bad influence. {8:2} But if you are not willing to release them, behold, I will strike all your coasts with frogs. {8:3} And the river will seethe with frogs, which will go up and enter into your house, and your bedroom, and upon your bed, and into the houses of your servants and your people, and into your ovens, and into the remains of your foods. {8:4} And to you, and to your people, and to all your servants, the frogs will enter.’ ” Now, Heket, is an Egyptian goddess depicted as a frog. What God is showing here is punishment to Egypt using one of the things they worship. This goddess also does not have power over the One True God. {8:5} And the Lord said to Moses: “Say to Aaron: ‘Extend your hand over the rivers, and also over the streams and the marshes, and bring forth frogs over the land of Egypt.’ ” {8:6} And Aaron extended his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. {8:7} Then the sorcerers also, by their incantations, did similarly, and they brought forth frogs upon the land of Egypt. This incantation, multiplication of some lower animals made by sorcerers, is made through the help of fallen angels. This mimics the true miracle of God only to a certain extent. Notice that in order to prove that they can do similarly, what these sorcerers did is make matters worst! They increased the frogs through Egypt, but they could not stop it!
