Default Bishop in Brazil says he will ordain women to diaconate if pope permits it

Bishop Dom Adriano Ciocca Vasino will do so only if Pope Francis permits it. He is participating at the Vaticanís Amazon Synod. Of course, if any other subsequent Pope permits it, Bishops can do it as well.

Ordination of women to the deaconate is currently an open question. The Church has not infallibly answered this question thus far.

Bishop Vasino's posture is an indication that this question is being discussed at the Amazon Synod.

My opinion is that the Church does possess the authority to ordain women deacons, but this is just an opinion on an open question.
