Default The papacy

{26:40} And he approached his disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter: ôSo, were you not able to keep vigil with me for one hour?

When Jesus went to the garden of Gethsemani to pray, not only His Apostles accompanied Him, but also some of His disciples, so there were a considerate number of people going with Him (Bl. Catherine Emmerich testifies this as well). Jesus tells this group of people to wait for Him while He goes to pray. He then takes Peter and two sons of Zebedee aside and tells them how sorrowful He is beginning to feel and also tells them to wait and do a vigil for Him until He comes back.

When Jesus comes back, He finds all those people sleeping but He doesn't tells them all why they are all sleeping, but instead, He approaches Peter and tell him "So, were you not able to keep vigil with me for one hour?" why would Jesus approach Peter?... and not reproach all of his disciples and tell them why they are sleeping?... This clearly indicates that Peter was already the man in charge of His flock at that point in time.

If the owner of a company enter his facility and finds that all his workers have done a lousy job or "find them sleeping" he goes to the manager first to reproach him and to tell him what has he found because the manager is in the position to be in charge of his workers, the manager is the responsible.

There has been several successor of Peter up until now, St. Linus, St. Anacletus, St. Clement, all the way to Benedict XVI, and each one of them have been the "man in charge of His flock" until He comes back in all His Glory.
