Default What does "cf." stand for in a Bible quote?

Here is one example: In the July issue of MAGNIFICAT, on page 112, there is a Bible quote which reads, The Lord will give me freedom and peace. (cf. Ps 55:19)

What does the "cf." stand for?

It means the reference is not an exact quote.
It means 'compare'.

Default Could you please expound on cf.

Hi Ron,

Could you provide a bit more detail please: Does "cf." basically mean that the individual referencing a particular Bible passage is giving it a different translation?

It means it is not an exact quote, just the gist of what that passage is saying.
