Default Purpose of this group

The purpose of this group is to assist the members in learning the Catholic Faith ever better. The main focus of the group is the teaching series of threads, which include a review (on-going) of the teachings of every Ecumenical Council in the history of the Church; a Bible study, chapter by chapter, of the NT; posts on moral theology; other posts on Church teaching.

Members should participate with the attitude of students seeking to learn the teachings of Tradition, Scripture, and the Magisterium ever better.

Members should not be here only to voice opinions, or to argue, or to teach others. Some voicing of opinions, some theological arguments, and some teaching by members is welcome; but the main focus of each member should be on learning the Catholic Faith better.

Default Purpose

The purpose of this group is clear, and there is a growing awareness, on my part, just how challenging being a Catholic is. I am amazed at the breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding our administrator demonstrates everyday. I am overwhelmed because I am being measured by it all and found wanting.

For example, a discussion of non-infallible magisterium and fonts of morality is often hard to get my mind around, but the pragmatist that I am, I feel tell me what to believe and I will. The secret, of course, is that I trust what Ron is doing.

So while we have the advantage of this group, my greatest concern is how the rest of the world will ever get to the point of understanding.

I'm open to suggestions for topics that we might focus on in this group.

Our Bible study of the New Testament is nearing its end. I don't think I will do the entire Old Testament; there is not enough interest.

Ron,
In light of the coming times, I would be very interested in the methods and content of evangelization as a layperson. There will be a greater need (God help us) and those of us sitting at this round table are not all ready to take it on. We need to start in our own little worlds, but I am not sure where or how to begin. I am a certified catechist and I am able to conform to a curriculum, but those lessons are sadly lacking. Our books and tools are just pablum and mean almost nothing.

That's a good topic for us to discuss.
I will start a thread.

Default in full agreement

That in essence is what drew me to this discussion group; to learn and have a finger-tips ready solution for so very many doubts about morality and Church teaching that arise w/ all the issues society throws at us. Thanks again Ron for keeping us focused on what's more important in our perilous journey through these troubled/confusing times.
