Default Latest Group Rules

The following are the current rules for the CatholicPlanet.net discussion forums
(updated 31 December 2011)

1. The purpose of this group is to help believing and practicing Catholics to learn the Catholic Faith better, and to grow in faith and in knowledge. All members should participate with the attitude of students seeking to learn the Catholic Faith ever more fully.

2. This group is not a place for the exchange of baseless opinion, nor for contentious arguing. Be charitable, and offer some support for any controversial opinion that you might wish to share.

3. My role as leader of this discussion group is to teach and lead, and to moderate the discussion. Please understand that at times your posts may be edited or deleted, if I judge that the content is not appropriate for the group. I am concerned that this group be helpful, not harmfurl, to the souls who may stop by and read some of the material.

4. Members should discuss and share their views, but they should not act as if they are teachers or leaders in this group.

5. All members are subject to possible deletion of their accounts, or to banning from the group, or to being placed on probation, or to other penalties or actions, at the sole discretion of the administrator.

6. If members have any private messages, which they sent or received, and which they would like to retain, they should copy them to their own computer. Private messages will be deleted when member accounts are deleted, or upon banning from the group. Also, the private messaging system may be discontinued by the administrator at any time for any reason, without further notice.

7. Other discussion groups have occasionally had server issues which caused past postings or private messages to be lost from the group database; it is possible for this to happen with this group. Therefore, if you have any posts which you would like to retain, make a copy and keep it on your own computer. The administrator cannot be responsible for lost posts or lost private messages due to computer or server errors, or due to any other circumstances whatsoever.

8. Be respectful and charitable with fellow group members, including the administrator. Uncharitable posts are sufficient cause for banning. Contentiousness, personal attacks, and the frequent posting of baseless and foolish opinions will not be tolerated. Also, if you are uncharitable in your private messages, and if this is brought to the attention of the administrator, you may be banned.

9. Members are expected to refrain from posts which undermine or contradict any definitive teaching of the Magisterium. Members who openly reject any such teaching may be placed on probation, banned, or have their accounts deleted, with or without notice.

10. Members may not use the private messaging system to make disparaging comments about other members, nor about the administrator, nor as a way to make negative comments about the postings or posters in any discussion thread. The private messaging system is not to be used as a substitute for the discussion forums. Please join in the discussions openly and charitably. Members may not use the private messaging system as a way to form a separate group or a clique. Members may not use the forum's private messaging system to undermine or assail any definitive Catholic teaching.

11. I am concerned for the good of the souls of the members and of the non-member readers, therefore:
Members may not promote or discuss any false private revelation listed on this page:
http://www.catholicplanet.com/apparitions/index.htm
Members may promote or discuss any true private revelation listed on the above page. However, claimed private revelations not on either the true or the false list above, including claims of apparitions, messages, and other supernatural experiences, should not be discussed without prior approval from the administrator by private messaging or e-mail.

12. Out of the same concern: Please do not discuss or promote particular books of theology without prior approval from the administrator by private messaging or e-mail. There are many good books of theology, but there are also many harmful books of theology.

However, certain works do not need prior approval to discuss, including: any work by a Saint or Blessed or Venerable, any work of private theology by a Pope, Cardinal, or Bishop, any documents of the Magisterium, and any Catholic edition of the Bible.

13. Please do not post graphic photos of the violence of abortion, nor of the violence of war. When discussing sexual ethics, please do not be overly explicit; instead, use discreet and modest language.

14. Please do not copy and post whole articles or whole lengthy posts from other websites on this site. This may be a copyright violation. Respect the intellectual property rights of others. Instead, give a link to the article or post, and make a few comments of your own. This is a discussion group, not a place to re-post material from other sites.

Other rules may be added to this list in the future. The administrator may make new rules, as needed, and may decide on the resolution of issues and problems in the group ad hoc.
