![]() Ron,
I believe and have been convinced for some time now that I am being called to the celibate single life. However, it appears to me that there is much confusion within the church as to what to do about this call. What I mean is how to validate it. First, some people say that the single life is not a valid vocation. What does Sacred Scripture, Tradition, and The Magesterium say about the celibate single life? Is it a valid vocation? Secondly, do I need to make a vow to God to the celibate single life? Can this be done in private or do I need to do this in front of a priest? Any help and encouragement would be greatly appreciated. |

It is a valid vocation. I would encourage you to look through Scripture yourself for support for that vocation. I don't think it makes sense to make a vow to God. Vows are for priests and religious. You are simply doing what you understand to be God's will. It might be the case in the near or distant future that you understand God's will to be different (marriage or clergy or religious life). So you should not take vows. See my post: http://ronconte.wordpress.com/2010/1...ence-chastity/

![]() Hi Daytona,
Adding a bit to what Ron said, I would also recommend reading the document DIGNITATIS HUMANAE from the Second Vatican Council (especially topic # 3): http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_c...umanae_en.html And know that whatever God calls you to do will bring you joy. Blessings.

![]() For you, besides # 3, I would also highlight parts # 10, 11 & 12 of Dignitatis Humanae.

![]() Something you may want to consider is the Franciscan Third Order or perhaps the Benedictine Oblates. Both are wonderful programs for laypersons that are affiliated with religious communities but do not take religious vows.
